Horizon zero dawn is a game set for the future, it is based on what the developers think of the aftermath if robots took over and eradicated all of humanity. The game is played in a post-apocalyptic world filled with vegetation fused with metal ruins. This game takes you through Aloy’s fierce journey of exploring new settlements, trading weapons, searching for rare machine parts, and most importantly, killing terrifyingly aggressive machines to survive. the game’s main aim is to shut down a type of corruption for the machines called HADES. This is causing the machines to be hostile to humans and much more dangerous than before. There is a vast variety of machines that are to be fought using a variety of weapons, Send a piercing arrow into the bulging ‘cargo sac’ of a giant fire-spewing Bellowback, Down a flying, ice-shooting Glinthawk by destroying the armoured sac on its chest to temporarily freeze the bird, or shoot the cannon off the back of a tiger-like Ravager and pick it up to blast a T-Rex machine called the Thunderjaw. Killing all these machines is not easy without the help of Aloy’s ‘Focus’, a holographic device she can use to scan the weak points of any machine. This game does not give any hand-holding tutorials that tells you how to play that game, it’s fully immersive gameplay allows you to make your own choices in the game, as well as learning the game all by yourself. One of my favourite details about the game is that horizon encourages you just to blindly wander into every fight and start shooting. A lot of the machines roam in packs, with larger beasts flanked by velociraptor-like sentry bots called Watchers, so if you’re not careful you can be outnumbered and devoured within seconds. some of my favourite smaller moments came from Aloy’s sarcastic interactions with other characters who didn’t get the joke.
